WHAT I COVER
SKIMMING
Whether it's artex ceilings or iffy walls, then I will get them looking sharp again. Finish plaster is around 3mm thick depending on the surface. For extra durablity, particularly in Victorian/Edwardian properties I embed mesh in the plaster, this gives the final surface much greater crack resistance.
PLASTERBOARDING
Plasterboard is normally screwed to joists and stud walls or dot and dabbed onto solid walls. Standard boards are the norm, but there are specialist boards for soundproofing, moisture resistance and fire resistance too. I can advise on this.
COVING
The standard coving found in most domestic properties is referred to as Gyproc. Normally in 4 and 5 inch versions. I can also fit solid plaster cornice and ornate mouldings, having had training in this by British Gypsum themselves.
RENDERING
Smooth finish render that you can then paint or coloured (textured) render (often referred to as K-rend). I don't use sand and cement anymore for smooth coat render, as in my opinion the bagged renders are breathable, crack resistant and more consistent. I use mesh throughout the whole surface (not just around windows and doors).
DAMP PROOFING
I offer a damp proofing service to solve rising and penetrating damp issues. There are a number of ways to damp proof and many opinions on the subject. I use the mesh membrane method, supplied by a dependable company with first class, durable products. I've been using this method as opposed to tanking, injection method, since around 2009 as I trust it and it works.
MOULD PROOFING
In a property, warm air hitting a cold wall, can cause condensation which can then cause mould. I can install false walls with insulation to effectively give you a warm wall to help prevent this occurring. It involves fixing studs to walls, fitting Celotex (or equivalent) and then plasterboard on top. At the same time I can install a damp proof membrane to protect against penetrating or rising damp. Very effective in old houses or single skin walls.
LIME PLASTERING
Having learnt this skill early on in my plastering career, I've attained a lot of experience working with lime. I've learnt from some of the leading experts in the country and get my materials from consistent suppliers. I can also advise on natural insulation methods having worked with wood wool, cork etc
